Morocco is located in the Arab Maghreb region at the northwestern tip of Africa, with the Atlantic Ocean in the west and the Mediterranean Sea in the north, and has a vast land area with a subtropical climate in northwestern Africa, where 73 percent of the surface water resources are concentrated in the Atlantic coastal area, and where the Mediterranean coastal area is extremely poor in arable land, although it accounts for 11 per cent of the surface water resources. The remaining 16% of surface water resources are distributed in the vast southern and eastern regions. Thanks to a rational water resources policy, Morocco has been able to guarantee the supply of water to its main cities and irrigation districts for many years, allowing for sustained and stable social and economic development in the face of water shortages of more than 60 percent.
