According to the official determination of the China Earthquake Network: Morocco local time on September 8, 2023 at 23:11 (Beijing time on September 9, 2023 at 6:11) a 7.0 earthquake occurred, the epicenter is located at 31.00 degrees north latitude, 8.55 degrees west longitude. The epicenter was about 71 kilometers southwest of the southern Moroccan city of Marrakech at a depth of 8 kilometers. The latest data released by the Moroccan Ministry of Interior said that as of the 10th local time, the death toll has risen to 2,122 people, the number of injured reached 2,421, of which 1,404 are seriously injured. Hauz province, where the epicentre was located, recorded 1,293 deaths, followed by Taludang province with 452. The World Health Organization says more than 300,000 people have been affected in and around Marrakech, and search and rescue operations are ongoing.
