On October 27, 2026, a wildfire activity occurred in eastern Sükhbaatar Province, Mongolia. The China DRS4BR team members of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Central South University and the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), initiated satellite-based monitoring to track active fire.
The FY-3H imagery at 04:10 UTC and Himwari-9 satellite images from 03:30 UTC to 09:30 UTC were used to track and map spatial distribution and temporal evolution of active fire. By analyses thermal and visible imagery, the active fire hotspots were automatically identified and followed with manual checking. We reached the following map and points with all available FY-3H and Himawari-9 imagery.
1.An eastward-drifting smoke plume was observed in true color image at 03:30 UTC, while active fire hotspots were first detected at 04:00 UTC. No active fire hotspots were detected after 09:00 UTC.
2.The wildfire activity was initially detected in the central of the affected area and subsequently spread eastward, with persistent fire activity observed in the eastern. At 04:50 UTC, new active fire hotspots were detected in the western part of the affected area and progressively extended toward the central region.
