In the early of August, 1960, there are downpours in the Hun River, Taizi River, the middle and downstream of the Yalu River, Dayanghe River, Zhuang River, Biliuhe River and Daqing River where is in the east and south of the Liaoning province. The center of the rainstorm, Heigou station in Pushi River, the maximum rainfall in 24 hours reached 503.6 millimeter. This was a rarely seen rainstorm because of its strong and large range, which caused the biggest flood since 1888. There was also the second and the third biggest flood in the Hun River and the middle and downstream of Yalu River since 1888.
The process of the rainstorm It began raining on 28th, July, 1960, but the range is small only in the Zhuang River and Xinjing which is located in the Liaodong peninsula. The rainfall in the center of the rainstorm is 133.8 millimeter. The rainfall reduced on 29th. And then, the rainfall gradually increased and speared on 1st, August. The center of the rainstorm was located in Hun River in 1st, Tai River on 2nd. The rainfall was 185.4 millimeter in Fushun station, 230.9 millimeter in Huangtuling station and the maximum 2 hours rainfall in Fushun station is 122.2 millimeter. The center of the rainstorm moved to the upper stream of Taizi River in 3rd and extended to the downstream area of Yalu River. The daily rainfall is 302.9 millimeter in Benxi station and 417.2 millimeter in Heigou station of Kuandian County. The center of the rainstorm eastward moved to the Yalu River estuary, and daily rainfall in Dandong station is 219.0 millimeter. Finally the rainstorm basically ended on 5th.
The rainfall lasted for 8 days but mainly strongly on three days from 2nd to 4th, August. In the center of the rainstorm Heigou station in Pushi River, the maximum rainfall is 269 millimeter for 6 hours, 355.4 millimeter for 12 hours, 503.6 millimeter for 24 hours and 556.7 millimeter for three days. The area of the strong rainstorm is very large too, the acreage of where rainfall exceed 400 millimeter in one day is about 3000 square kilometers. The acreage of where rainfall exceed 200 millimeter in the three days is about 40000 square kilometers and the acreage of where rainfall exceed 100 millimeter in the three days is about 102000 square kilometers.
This rainstorm caused the biggest flooding in the history of Shenwo station of Taizi River, the peak flood flow in Shenwo station was 16900 cubic meter per second. And in the area of Hun River, Ai River, Pushi River, Hun River and the downstream of the Yalu River also had the flooding which was closed to the maximum flood peak discharge in the history. The rainstorm in 1960 caused the most serious flooding since the founding of new China because of its strong and heavy.
