What should we do when babies have airway obstruction

The possibility of airway obstruction should first be considered when a baby is found to have silent crying and his face turns purple. Measures to be taken at this time are described as following:

(1) Open the airway. The way to open the airway is to hold the baby's forehead with one hand and place the other hand on the bone in the baby's bone heart in lower collar. But don't lean back too much, just make his mouth, nose and thorax become two parallel lines.

(2) Determine whether the baby is breathing normally. The method is: looking, listening and feeling. "Looking" means to hold your head down and look down at the baby's chest and abdomen to see if there is a normal rise and fall in breathing. "Listening" means trying to listen to the baby's wheezing sound simultaneously. "Feeling" is to feel the airflow through the baby's mouth with cheek, lasting 10 seconds. Within 10 seconds, if the child was not breathing, try to blow again and again after opening the airway. If there is no obvious fluctuation in the thorax and abdomen of the baby, it means that the air cannot be blown into the lungs of the baby. Then, do the second artificial ventilation. If the second artificial ventilation still fails to blow air into the infant's lungs, this proves that the infant may suffer from airway obstruction.

The baby's head is heavy but the cervical spine is soft. Special attention should be paid to the baby's cervical spine when lifting the baby.

At this time, use special techniques to rescue infants.

(1) First, grasp the baby's lower jaw with the index and middle fingers of one hand and let the other hand pass through the baby's back to keep his head and neck on a flat surface.

(2) Secondly, lift the baby up with both hands with the baby face down, head on the lower part of the body, and strike the area between the shoulder blades with the palm root of one hand five times.

(3) If the eyewinker still stays in, seize the children’s head occipital with index finger and thumb of one hand, then turn the baby over and still keep the head down. After that, use the ring finger of the other hand to touch the children's nipple. Move the two nipples to the center and, in the position of one thwartwise finger under the line formed by two nipples, that is, under a third position of children sternum, do chest compressions. After five times, turn the baby over and pat his back. Repeat it until the foreign object is washed out.

Experts remind

After five back slaps and five chest compressions, check to see if the foreign body has been flushed out. The method is to use the thumb into the baby's mouth and the index finger to grasp the baby's jaw so that its mouth will be opened. At the same time, observe whether there is foreign matter. If there is a foreign object, use the little finger of your other hand to pull it out in sufficient light. Do not prod disorderly in the mouth in the case of seeing nothing, which will make it easy to shove the foreign matter back into the airway.
